Recognize the keys before capturing a Chromebook screen

The Show windows key is a Chromebook key with a window-like icon; it is not the browser's full-screen control. Some keyboards have a separate Screenshot key. An external keyboard may use a different equivalent, so start by looking at the physical layout.

  1. Open Screen Capture from the system controls if you cannot identify the shortcut key.
  2. Choose screenshot rather than recording, then choose full screen, window, or a selected area.
  3. Capture a sample and check both the preview and the saved destination.

External keyboards and managed devices

Google documents Ctrl + Shift + F5 for opening capture controls on external keyboards without Show windows. Search and Launcher keys can also be remapped. School or workplace management may restrict some actions; a shortcut cannot override those restrictions.

When using a long page, capture the section that communicates your point and check that small text is readable. For a recording, verify audio settings separately and stop the recording when your task is complete.
