Worked example and checks
Check prerequisites, assessment, access, and total cost before choosing a learning path.
Name the credential you need
Reading a tutorial, completing a course, earning a course certificate, and passing a professional certification exam are different achievements. Start by deciding what skill you want to demonstrate and whether an employer or project actually requires a particular credential.
Check the official page
Record the syllabus, prerequisites, expected workload, assessment, provider, and completion requirements. Verify enrollment terms in your own region. Free learning material does not necessarily include graded work, cloud lab credits, or an examination. A trial or financial-aid application is not a guarantee of free certification.
Compare two paths on paper
Make a small table for your target skill. Include one practical learning resource and one structured course. List the exercises you will complete and the artifact you can show afterward. Google's Machine Learning Crash Course, for example, publishes prerequisites and practice material; inspect those before planning a study schedule.
Set a realistic study checkpoint
Choose a single module and complete its exercise before committing to a long program. Write a short explanation of what you learned and reproduce one example without copying. If prerequisites are missing, add preparation time instead of treating a deadline as proof that the material can be mastered quickly.
Avoid employment promises
A credential can document learning, but it does not guarantee a job, promotion, or salary. Verify current costs and requirements on the provider's page, and retain a record of the terms you accepted.
